Bio
Abeer A. is a contemperory artist whose work explores themes of identity, loss, and reconstruction through a deeply personal lens. Drawing from her lived experiences, particularly the profound impact of loss, Abeer reflects on the fluid and fragile nature of identity. Her practice spans painting, charcoal drawing, film, and installation, each medium offering a unique avenue to express the tension between disintegration and reassembly that lies at the heart of her work.
In her paintings, Abeer fragments the human form, using the absence and obscuration of body parts to evoke the instability of memory and the shifting essence of self. Her charcoal drawings, focused on gesture and emotion, strip away physical identity to delve into the emotional states that define human experience. Through film, she captures movement and body language, using ink to reflect the transient and unstable nature of memory and self. Abeer’s installations immerse the viewer in the themes of absence, rupture, and transformation, turning the space into an active participant in the exploration of identity.
Abeer has exhibited internationally, with works shown in Doha, Paris, Madrid, London, New York, Rome and Dubai. Her practice has earned her recognition, including the prestigious Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award. Her artistic journey is influenced by both her personal experiences and the broader global art scene, offering a unique perspective on the fragility of memory and the complexities of the human experience.
Abeer’s work invites psychological inquiry, drawing the viewer into a space where the boundaries between presence and absence, loss and recovery, self and other, blur. Her ongoing exploration of materiality and movement, through sculptural and fabric-based elements, deepens the dialogue between the body, memory, and transformation. She is currently investigating the integration of gesture drawings within her paintings, blending the immediacy of mark-making with the precision of realism. Through this evolving practice, Abeer seeks to create a space where identity can unfold in ever-shifting forms, offering the viewer a chance to reflect on their own experiences of fragmentation, resilience, and reconfiguration.
